As per the OP, it's not really the companies. It's some of their suppliers some of whom appear to have been arrested. That this has been made public is punishment enough for the companies.

The company is ultimately responsible though.

I agree but it makes a big difference to me that there is no intent to deceive on the part of the companies in quesiton.

    caveat emptor

This is a big disappointment. People who pick out olive oil do so for health reasons. To be sold fake stuff is a big problem.
As well as those who use it for religious reasons.

    Quite vexing.

    Fear profits a man nothing.

It's called healthy when it's being used to replace something else that's worse like corn oil or whatever, but you don't need any kind of oil to be healthy. I kicked the oil habit over 2 years ago and continue to enjoy excellent health. My last blood test was about two weeks ago and my doctor said my cholesterol profile was very good. My total cholesterol was 148 and I don't take any medications whatsoever. Many other items were tested as well and everything was within range.

You need cholesterol to live. If you have low LDL and triglycerides you are fine. My HDL is very high- 101 the last time I had a test that broke the three measures down. Total was 254.
