    3 Calgary police officers charged

The following officers were charged Wednesday:
    • Const. James Othen, 38, faces four charges including assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and two counts of public mischief.
    • Const. Kevin Humfrey, 33, faces charges of assault causing bodily harm and two counts of public mischief.
    • Const. Michael Sandalack, 31, faces a charge of assault causing bodily harm.

"I consider the dishonesty and the charging of a person who did not commit an offence to be — by far — the more serious charges," said Sue Hughson, executive director of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), which investigated the incident.

"To suggest that a person committed an offence that they did not commit and potentially subject that person to the criminal justice process, and potentially imprisonment, is extremely serious."

Calgary police Chief Roger Chaffin said the alleged actions of the officers are "not representative of the kind of policing we expect in this city."

For the record, I find it interesting that Canadian media doesn't identify the race of anyone involved when US media would be all over it.

Anyways; I found the comment by the ASIRT executive director to actually be quite interesting - is being beat up less serious than having false charges applied that could result in a prison sentence? It's interesting to think about it. Bones and skin heal, but going to prison because officers lied? That really does seem the most egregious part of what these officers did.

The US media ignores race if a white person isn't the culprit.

Canada isn't governed by race hustlers like here.

Plus, yinz have a cultural identity, we do not.

Knowingly filing false charges that could get a person sent to prison should be a class 1 felony. That should apply to citizens, police and prosecutors. Cops who arrest someone they know to be innocent to "teach them a lesson" by making them spend the night or weekend in jail should be charged with a class 5 felony.

Wait, you expect the partisians to choose how they feel about an incident without knowing everyone's race and or political affiliation first? What a novelidea, our megia should try that here.
