The establishment media finally had some competition at election time and they didn't like it. They're used to owning and controlling all of it.

So they accuse the competitions news sources of being what they are... hacks for power. It's just projection.

If I don't criticize Russia and its propaganda, it's because I find the endeavor useless and redundant. 99% of westerners, including myself, are already firmly convinced that Russia's government is authoritarian and in the business of disseminating propaganda. Nobody needs me or anyone else to persuade them of that. We have a giant government-media complex that vilifies Russia vociferously and incessantly.

Where there is a distinct lack of consensus in the west is over the authoritarian and propagandistic nature of their own governments. And since those governments, and not the Russian government, presume to rule over me and my fellow westerners, I find it much more important and necessary to challenge their authority and narratives as they have far more impact on my life.

Simply put, it's about balance and priorities.

Greenwald is being hyperbolic as this has no legitimate comparison of the McCarthy witch hunts. Unless of course congressional hearings that accused thousands of Americans of being communists and homosexuals is equivalent to some list of websites by some dude.
You realize that those hearings didn't just materialize over night, right? That they were preceded by years of build-up and intrigue? You seem to think that because it's not as bad as it was during the height of McCarthyite hysteria, that it bears no resemblance to it at all. That would be like saying there are no parallels between Trump's treatment of Muslims and FDR's treatment of Japanese-Americans merely because the former group hasn't been shipped off to internment camps yet. All of these kinds of things typically start off small and build steam from there. That is why it is so important to stop it before it starts, and why Greenwald is drawing the very appropriate parallels between what McCarthy did and what many powerful figures are doing today.

    No problem.

And though I doubt the FBI will follow through on their recommendations, that's what they're asking for, and the Washington Post is giving them a national platform from which to make those requests. I find that incredibly disquieting and bizarre, especially when one considers the dubious credibility of this organization.

Under our constitutional framework the press was suppose to be neutral. They are not. They are largely typists for the DNC. So to let them also get into bed with law enforcement is insane.

the press was never supposed to be neutral; it was supposed to be free from government interference.

the idea that it is supposed to be neutral is insane

The only problem, as Greenwald and other journalists have pointed out, is that this list comes from a highly suspect group known only as "PropOrNot", a completely anonymous, partisan organization whose existence dates back to August of this year.

Not only will these people not identify themselves, but the WaPo reporter who published it won't comment on it.

    How's that for transparency?

This kind of shoddy, biased reporting is clearly propagandistic in nature. But it's also disturbingly Orwellian, since it's guilty of the very thing it's attempting to malign, i.e., fake news and propaganda.

Fortunately, more and more people seem to be waking up to this reality, largely thanks to the very websites these anonymous smear merchants are attempting to discredit.

In other words, the internet is breaking up the oligarchic monopoly on information and the oligarchy is panicking, resorting to increasingly desperate and mendacious tactics.

Ahhh, a new way to silence Patriots. I seriously doubt , for example, that Ron Paul has ever spread disinformation. So the MSM is accusing other sources of new of .. ... doing .. exactly what they do but in the opposite direction . While the MSM spreads disinformation in a pro-war, pro cheat Bernie, pro spend and borrow government kinda way.
This means that they are running scared, as the $#@!s should be, of losing credability and bussiness. Vet your news. Compare the two side by side via the internet and see where the real "disinformation " lies. For example, I'll take Ron Paul's predictions of the effect of continued deficit spending , albeit potentially a little over dramatic, over the MSM's who simply ignores it, any day.

The mainstream media is scared to death. Americans think they are buffoons and liars and dont trust anything they say and blogs have become the only choice to sift through the bs and try to get some truth.

The NY Times realizes they are half dead already and are trying to apologize and change

This fake news thing may be an invention of the main stream media to get attention

Yet some think it is perfectly natural for the press to by typists for a political party.

    Too funny.
