Second Sailor 'Under Review' for Refusing to Stand for Anthem

    Call it the Kaepernick effect.
As more pro athletes around the country follow San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's lead and take a knee for the Star Spangled Banner in protest, a second sailor has gone public with her own gesture of solidarity.
Intelligence Specialist 2nd Class Janaye Ervin, a reservist on active duty within U.S. Pacific Fleet, is subject to administrative actions, still under review, for refusing to stand for the national anthem while in uniform Sept. 19, Bill Doughty, a spokesman for Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Public Affairs told Military.com.
Ervin posted a public account of her actions to Facebook on Sept. 21.
"I have been proudly serving in the US Navy Reserve Force since November 2008. I have pledged to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and to spread freedom and democracy around the world. I will never waver from that pledge," she wrote in the post, which included a photograph of herself in her Navy blue digital camouflage work uniform.
Her choice not to stand for the anthem was a conscious decision, made for ideological reasons, she said.
"I feel like a hypocrite singing about the 'land of the free' when I know that only applies to some Americans," she wrote. "I will gladly stand again, when ALL AMERICANS are afforded the same freedom."

ANOTHER PERSON THAT JUST DOESN'T GET IT! If BLM why not work on restoring civility to your own race and be a positive example instead of a racist crybaby?
According to the FBI stats blacks kill more blacks and other people than all other races combined in America!

IMHO, Stop or change those FACTS and Law Enforcement will be less leery and suspicious of blacks........

For me, I find that this is a dangerous trend. What will be the next action in inaction that will be adopted? Will they decide not to follow orders next, not have their comrade's back?

That is why this person will be kicked out. Likely with a general discharge.

Her being a Reservist should make it easier, administratively, for the Navy to cut ties with her.

I remember an incident that happened when I was at Pearl, working with the base MAA force. Our office/dispatch center was attached to the Restricted Men's Barracks, and one morning during Colors - that's when they raise the flag and play the anthem, and everyone who is outside stands at attention and if covered (wearing headgear) salutes - we watched as one of the Restricted men continued walking toward the barracks, ignoring Colors. He was almost there when Colors ended, and the Master Chief MAA sort of exploded out of the door and snatched this kid up. Asked what he thought he was doing, he replied, "I don't bow down to idols".

"I feel like a hypocrite singing about the 'land of the free' when I know that only applies to some Americans," she wrote. "I will gladly stand again, when ALL AMERICANS are afforded the same freedom."
By that "logic", no one should ever pray until everything they want to happen already has. The Anthem is an affirmation of what we believe America always should be; it is not a song of praise to something perfect, but a reminder of what we should always be working to attain.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard

There's no excuse for her action.
She wasn't conscripted so joined of her own free will.
If she believes the US is not the land of the free now, she probably believed it before she took the oath.
Perhaps she just wants to get kicked out as I would assume one can't just give notice but has to honor a contract, or whatever the military term is called.

Being a civilian and not familiar with what this means other than I guess her being dismissed from service, how will this deter others from doing what she has done? Are there other ramifications that she will encounter?

She will lose benefits that people get with an honorable discharge.

Your point was one that I had also. What happens when this is used by others in mass as a form of getting out of their contract?
