Hack this, hack that but what happens when.....

Someone decides to take down our electrical grid? This affects Canada too. We lose all power, maybe for weeks. You lose all your refrigeration, hospitals lose all lights, heart machines, etc. No way (other than solar) to even charge a battery. The average family would be devastated. It is already possible, but who would do it and why? What would YOU do? This is why we need to get to a system that would absolutely make hacking impossible. That means the nerd sitting at a computer in mom's basement as well as the huge sophisticated facilities dedicated to this very practice. Let's talk about it and keep it on subject please. It's a serious subject deserving serious comment.

    Play nice or be gone.

Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I digress....

If it were possible it would have already been done. The simple fact of the matter is it's impossible to make anything hack-proof.
"Those who produce should have, but we know that those who produce the most — that is, those who work hardest, and at the most difficult and most menial tasks, have the least."

It IS possible I understand. As to the hack proof comment, I think anything is possible and better minds than yours or mind need to work on that issue.

Why do you think the better minds aren't working on it. I'd imagine it's a 24/7/365 thingy.
It's ok if you disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.

Gawd! I hope you're right. It would be a event that would dwarf so many other possible calamities, both natural and man made.

Its more than just hacking. Hacking would be easier to prevent or limit than a solar event taking down the grid. A solar event would do actual damage to key components of the electrical system. Something so important should definitely be given a very high priority. If the Pentagon says Global Warming is an issue of national security then the electrical grid system in this country should be 10 steps higher. If someone detonated a nuclear device in our upper atmosphere designed to take down the grid that would definitely be an act of war and a national security issue. If the grid were hardened against the electomagnetic burst of a nuclear device then it would also protect it from a solar event.

This hacking thing has been going on for many years and its already a national security issue. The whitehouse and the pentagon have both been hacked. The next administration says they will address the problem.
