    Job Search, Continued...

OK, so the NFTA did not let my application go past the review board. So what now? Well, I may have an even bigger prize if I play my hand right. Trailways of New York is a Motorcoach carrier based in Hurley, NY and is an umbrella company that covers Adirondack, Pine Hill, and New York Trailways. They are a 90 year old family owned company, the largest independent Trailways company in the East, and treat their drivers and passengers like royalty. First year operators earn between $45-$50K/year and after four years, the rate is $60K with a great benefits package. I've had a passion for buses and the busing industry for nearly 30 years and would love to be an operator myself. Trailways has an intensive driver training program as well. I'm going to Rochester this weekend to attend their job fair!! Now, if that falls through, there are a couple of smaller charter companies in the area I still can try and I can resubmit my application to the NFTA again (and again, and again, and... )

Good luck hooking up with a good job.

Check out the coach I put in my signature. That is one of Adirondack's 2013 Prevost H3-45 luxury coaches. It's a 45 foot long by 102" wide bus built by Canadian builder Prevost Car Corp. Much of the fleet are either Prevost or VanHool with a few older MCI J4500s remaining. The reason why TWNY is going with Prevost is that they do alot of business in Canada, especially in Montreal and they require a Canadian manufacturer, plus they want more consistency with their equipment. But what I found appealing is their longstanding reputation for excellent maintenance of their coaches and customer service. I used to do daytrips to Rochester back in the late-80s to early 90s and rode mostly Empire Trailways, so I got to develop this passion at that time.

Best of luck Boris! I hope you get in with Trailways. If you love driving, it's also one way to see the country.

Never been to NYC at all. I was told by one of my FB friends who works for Trailways that I would likely be working some NYC my first year. But I would also be there during my training period. @Dr. Who Trailways NY runs their drivers exclusively in New York State, unless they are on a charter. The bus company is part of the NeOn brand.

The tradeoff here is that I will be going on the road, away from home. I've had a long discussion with my wife and daughter about this and they both back me 100%. Fortunately, I have extended family to help as well along with modern technology which means I'm going to have to invest in a laptop with a webcam, especially when I'm pulling an overnight on a line run or doing an extended charter.
