This woman in the OP probably doesn't have an evil bone in her body to be a racist. When she realized what she'd done, she was horrified. I think people are just too sensitive these days.

I was born and raised in the South and have lived here all of my life except for my stint in the Navy. I had never heard of chicken and waffles until recently. I don't think its a traditional black or white meal. Much of what is called "soul food" is nothing more than poor folk's Southern cooking that I grew up with.

I will admit adding watermelon to the meal on MLK day was a bit tacky. In the 60's I worked with a black man who told me he would never eat watermelon because of the image of the black kid eating a slice of watermelon.
