I weld as hobby and odd jobs, mainly fabricating recumbent bicycles and usefull objects. I took 18 weeks of trade school welding but, foolishly, dropped out.

My little oil change place is just down the street from the Hobart Welding School. Welding is an unappreciated art. I weld on my bush hog and 1964 JD 2010. It's damn ugly welding and I use twice the amount of stick. But the welder comes cheap.

I just use a 90 amp 110 volt, flux cored wire welder, works on light to medium jobs.
