What is your favorite Glock for concealed carry? Or, if your favorite CC is a different one, what is it? Over the years, I've learned that the best recommendations come from you -- and, I'm thinking ahead for Father's Day.

I'm old fashioned.....and like the 45. Plus I like the way it lifted some off the ground or knocked them backwards.

Picked up a Nam Commemorative for the 50th Anniversary this last year, like this one.

I have had SIG P220s in the past. I never was into attaching crap to pistols. If silencers become easier to get, that may be of interest.

It is a good weapon. I probably would have looked at Glock for ease of maintenance. But SIG is quality.
I looked at the SIG at the same time I looked at the Glock. The SIG was substantially heavier. More importantly, it did not feel "right" to me. I selected the Glock P-26D for concealed carry.

For home defense, I still recommend any of the AR-15 platforms with appropriate ammunition. The AR-15 is very easy to point, shoot and hit your target.

I prefer, big bore single action revolvers. My opinion, may be biased, the only gun I own, is one, real old school, black powder muzzeloading, cap n ball 44.

Yes, the P220 is too big and heavy for conceal carry. I use to have a S&W model 64 with a 2" barrel and spurless hammer. It fired .38+P rounds. That was a nice carry conceal weapon.

I carried 1911s for 30 years. It is a great platform. There is nothing like the trigger on a good 1911. The Sig 1911 lives up to Sig's normal high standards and is a gun you can count on to work when you need it.

I didn't switch to the Glock platform until about 5 or 6 years ago. I bought my wife a Glock 17, then I made the mistake of taking it to the range myself to run it through its paces. I was hooked after that. I ordered myself a Glock 31 (.357 Sig) and that was all she wrote. My .45s went into the safe, I got a G32 to replace my Kimber as my daily carry gun. The .45s still come out several times a year, but I will probably not go back to carrying a 1911 unless all the .357 Sig ammo in the world dries up.

One of the things I like about Glock is the fact that there is so much interchangeability. What I mean is that in the full sized guns, the G17, (9mm), the G22 (.40) and the G31 (.357 Sig) are all on the same frame and are the same size. In the compacts, the G19 (9mm), the G23 (.40) and the G32 (.357) are all on the same frame. That means you can use the same holsters and accessories for them. When you are buying multiple guns for an agency, that becomes real important.

To answer your question, my personal opinion is that the best all around defensive pistol out there right now is the Glock 19. It is small enough to carry as a daily concealed carry gun, yet large enough that someone with big, beefy hands like mine can still grip it well and be comfortable with it. My personal concealed carry handgun is the Glock 32, which is on the same frame as the G19, but instead of being chambered for 9mm, is chambered for .357 Sig. That is kind of a specialized round though and more than most people need. 9mm is a great defensive round. In fact, the FBI announced last year, they are ditching their .40s and going to 9mm and issued a bulletin recommending it as the primary round for law enforcement use. They are trading in their Glock 23s for Glock 19s. The NYPD went to Glock 19s as their standard issue pistol a number of years ago. The reason the FBI is going to 9mm is because they conducted a multi year study into the wound trauma caused by the most popular defensive caliber handgun rounds (9mm, .40, .38, .357, .45) and found that based on studies of actual cadavers instead of ballistic gelatin, there was no significant difference in trauma caused to the body (using good hollow point or frangible ammo) between 9mm, .40, .38, and .45. They all did almost identical damage. The one stand out was .357, but most people don't need to carry a magnum caliber handgun for normal defensive use.

I strongly recommend 9mm for most shooters in my defensive pistol classes.

If you were looking for something a little smaller, my recommendation in a subcompact would be the Ruger LC9s Pro. It is a single stack 9mm with the absolute best trigger of any compact or subcompact pistol out there. I got Wendy one for her birthday or our anniversary or whatever it was and it has become her daily carry gun. It only holds 7 rounds compared to 15 for the Glock 19. It is smaller and thinner than the Glock, but I can still actually grip it.

As always, excellent advice. I think the Glock 19 sounds perfect.

The Ruger LC9s Pro also sounds good -- maybe for me!

Thanks so much for your help. From binoculars to flashlights to handguns -- I always know I'll get the best recommendation from you.

    Another winner!!!

    Any time, my friend.

I think the LC9s Pro would probably be a great gun for you. Wendy carried her G19 for years, but the LC9s Pro is lighter and thinner and that makes a difference if you are going to carry it all day.
