    Canada Inching Toward ‘Islamophobia’ Law

Canada Inching Toward ‘Islamophobia’ Law. Canada is inching toward a broadly-based law that would codify “Islamophobia” as a hate crime without even defining Islamophobia or demonstrating that it is a phenomenon requiring legal action. This is particularly interesting to me --
'phobia' being defined as a 'hate crime'.

The inmates are running the asylum. And, no surprise, the msm isn't covering it. I guess the Canadians will have to come down here so they can legally hate terrorists.

Such a law would be unconstitutional in the US. It doesn't define what Islamophobia is. It would be void for vagueness.

Also recognizing that recognizing that Jihadists are enemies of mankind is a virtue, not a crime.

Don't our general hate crimes cover this anyways? (I don't do criminal work)

Cover what? I am not sure what the Canadian law intends to cover.

If you walk up to a Muslim and beat him unconscious because he is Muslim that may well qualify as a hate crime in the US.

If you stand on the court house steps and say that Jihadists are enemies of all mankind it would not qualify as a hate crime in the US. It very may well run afoul of the Canadian legislation described in the OP.

Probably, but I don't know that they should. Religion is a choice. While a person can't change their race or sex (okay, that last one is changeable now), they can convert to and from different religions at will.

While the right to worship as one sees fit, as long as it does not violate our laws, is valid, the right to be protected against someone who might insult your choice of religion is silly.

I've known Christians who converted to Islam, paganism, Buddhism, etc., but that doesn't mean they should automatically be protected against the opinions of others who disagree with them.

Good points. Free speech rights here that they don't have in Canada?

Canada has limited free speech rights.
