Trump has the right idea! Tax imports!

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States

What Trump wants is more constitutional than the income tax. Hell we could do away with most of the income tax for citizens and it could actually mean people consume MORE!

That already happens. However, if the import taxes increase, don't you suppose that other countries will likewise increase the taxes on American exports? What you are really advocating is a consumption tax, because increasing import duties increases the cost of goods. The people who will end up paying the most, relative to income, are the poorest people.
In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

To a point, perhaps but it will be incentive to produce in the US! So will be a a short term negative with a long term gain? If it is played properly, YES.

Dr Who even if that happens at least it will be made here and benefit americans. There has to be some incentive to bring jobs and investment back to the United States. Look what outsourcing has created in China? what might be soon the entire worlds greatest threat.

With automation and robots taking jobs can we afford to have most of america trying to live on minimum wage and partime jobs. Even if we educated our entire country. WHERE would they work ? we'd have educated unemployed and master degrees working in mcdonalds. We have to get some manufacturing back here one way or another.

it will also increase jobs if we don't go running to China and Mexico for cheap goods. If Americans want cheap, we can make that here. The flip side, if we want good quality items, we can make that here as well..............since we wont have to pay duties, that results in lower costs all the way around

Will it cost more than the growing debt, growing welfare roles for illegals, shrinking manufacturing market...
