There are still arguments between scientists as to whether horses are native to N. America, since there were some 27 odd different variants of the horse at one time or another in history. However, unlike Jurassic Park, we are not recreating them from the DNA of fossils. The horse spread far and wide throughout the lifetime of this planet, so the species in general never became extinct, but adapted and migrated to survive.

Very true, during the last ice age 10,000 years ago, a great many creatures went extinct, Mammoth, Mastadon and glyptodont(an armadillo as big as a VW bug) come to mind. To think, our recent ancestors cohabitated with these critters. The evolution of the horse is fascinating.

I am by no means a camera snob. My feeling is to simply have fun with photography with whatever you want to use. The key to my carry around point and shoot is the 50x zoom. That is a BIG zoom for a small camera and that functionality simply cannot be matched by the phone. Of course its not the best picture ever, and for me its just a picture of opportunity. I'm not setting up with tripods and things like that.

Oldest daughter's camera is a Nikon 33,000 and a fine selection of lenses. Nikon was considered a great camera is Cannon thought of as the top now?

According to the site I got them from - it's actually 3 Clydesdales.

But horses are great looking creatures, aren't they? I'd love to have a horse as a pet, but I don't like to see people riding them - it's cruel, and it's no longer necessary.

But anyway, you're a great photographer to catch those horses like you did. I only have a cheap Canon I bought second hand, and my phone (which sucks as a camera).

Thank you! Re riding horses, many horses enjoy their job, particularly if they are bred for it e.g. race horses and jumpers. My 3 y/o actually gets upset if he's not worked for a few days, lol. I teach my horses many cues needed for riding, on the ground. His favorite is side-passing, and if not exercised for a few days, he will stand in front of me and side-pass for attention.
