You suggested that Britain's political and economic decline has led to material improvements in the average Briton's life. I don't think it has. That the standard of living in Britain is better now than in the Victorian era is as obvious as it is irrelevant. I could say the same thing about American life.

I didn't suggest anything like that. I said that once Britain stopped pushing people around all over the world, it developed different priorities, and the common man's life became better.
