Minister: American Girl Doll "Trick" to Emasculate Boys

American Girl has recently announced that they will be making their first doll for boys: a drummer boy doll who plays alongside Tenney Grant: a girl doll with a flair for country music. Reverend Keith Ogden of Hill Street Baptist Church responded by sending a letter to supporters and parishioners entitled "KILLING THE MINDS OF MALE BABIES" wherein he explains, among other things, that "This is nothing more than a trick of the enemy to emasculate little boys and confuse their role to become men." It's a male drummer doll.

    *sighs*

Is anyone else tired of EVERYTHING being branded as emasculating?

Yep. I found my son reading a Barbie book once. I didn't shame him or anything. Later he started wrestling with his brother and rough housing.

Strange, I let my kids be kids and they kinda do corresponding boyish and girlish things.

Nothing wrong with little boys having action figures or dolls. In this day and age, with so much divorce, having the skills to care for a child would be of benefit to any parent, male or female.

Back in my day toys were bought and sold because they were fun.

That's it, they were designed for kids to have fun with.

Nowadays there's an agenda behind toy concepts. "Gay Ken" or "Drummer dude in a chic band" or whatever.

And I know toys back when pushed the whole nuclear family thing, femme toys promoted cooking and having babies and boy toys promoted violence and action but that back then was the culture. Nothing was being "promoted", toy designs were simply a reflection of the culture at the time.

Now toy designs are far too common to be promoting a niche counter culture.

    Who buys this $#@! anyway?

OH NOES! Now I must take the GIJoe toys from my boys because they have some girl dolls!

So is this guy related to Westboro or is the OP out of context?

Oh no. Not more. I just discovered that Mrs. U has a problem that I didn't know about. I knew about the 3 American Girl dolls in my home -- 1 for P1 and 2 for P2 (Princess 1 and Princess 2 -- a joke b/c my wife's great grandmother was really truly a Queen in Europe, so the girls were teasingly called princesses by their grandfather) that were purchased as gifts years ago. I even think there's probably a tiny little clothes rack of AG doll clothes in P2's closet. Anyway...... I wandered into the guest room last weekend and discovered that Mrs. U has been purchasing AG Dolls on eBay, sending them to the doll hospital if necessary, dressing them and then putting them all over the guest room. (This from the woman that doesn't want to get a new dog) Confidentially folks (shhhh), it's kind of creepy. When I asked her about it - she said it's for 'the grandchildren' -- which we don't yet have. I suggested that she might want to get a job or volunteer somewhere. I think she's up to about 18 now.

I will keep an outlook for that boy doll. . . . .

Hey I love Barbie! I collected them at one time! Got a huge box of MIB barbies. Love the Barbie cartoons as well.
