Daddy daughter dates are everything that is wrong with the world?

Daddy daughter dates are everything that is wrong with the world -- Huh? According to one in England: "If you thought the story of a dad who takes his little girl out on a monthly ‘date’ is cute, then I’ve got news for you. It’s not. It’s creepy. And what’s more, it’s symptomatic of the poisonous ways that we treat male parenting."

Apparently, I'm a member of the oppressing patriarchy that pigeonholes stereotypical gender identities that society forces upon us, or something. (Man, society is a really tough force to overcome these days!)

I don't see anything wrong with a father spending time with his daughter.

I read this article a while back. Just another mentally stunted so-called "progressive" projecting their own deluded mindset onto normal people. She should probably see a psychiatrist.

The author of that piece has some issues. There's no reason to associate the word "date" with something "creepy" or inappropriate. Children have "play dates" with their buddies all the time and there is no sexual connotation attached. Women have shopping dates and lunch dates -- again -- no sexual connotation.

The daddy/daughter date is a nice way of encouraging fathers to spend special time with their daughters -- and creating an event that the children will happily anticipate. I wonder what that author thinks about dads walking daughters down the aisle at their weddings, or dancing the first dance with them at the reception?

    Odd.

God forbid a father makes his daughter a priority and spends some time with her. This is why we can't have nice things. Everything is turned into some sort of problem.

Yeah, that's a buncha hogwash. Nothing wrong with treating your kids once in a while.

How is a father supposed to treat his children?

To be honest I don't know of anyone who takes his daughter on a "date" as described in the article. I would think most fathers take their daughters to the zoo or the circus (the one's without animals of course) or maybe to the gun range if they are really devoted fathers, I did that with my daughter. There is a bond between fathers and daughters that perhaps lesbians don't understand but it does exist and its not sexual

I have twins, one boy, one girl and we do most stuff together, but we make sure to have dad/son time, dad/daughter time. The other side of that coin is my wife.

I kiss them and cuddle them and tell them i love them EVERY day. It is who I am, I am daddy, only title I care about.

#1 dad, all you other pretenders are in a tie for second place!

When my daughter, now 28, was little, I would sometimes take her to a movie - something like that. I can remember taking her to see A Little Princess - the 1995 version, when she was six - and seeing lots of other dads there with their daughters; that was very cool. And we went to Baseball games, though I suspect she was mostly just humoring me on those occasions. Looking back, I seriously regret not having done that kind of thing more. She turned out great; nevertheless, it's very true what they say about how when you look back on your life, you won't wish you had spent more time working, but you will regret not having spent more time with the people you love.

What I find creepy are those ceremonies where the young girls get all dressed up and pledge their chastity to their fathers; sometimes he gives her a ring. You know what I'm referring to?
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard
