This was addressed last week, I will repeat what I said there, I do not agree with the excessive spending regardless of party. This is not just for the POTUS but members of Congress as well, all non official travel should be as limited as possible, I have no issues with a vacation here or there but multiple multiple vacations are beyond acceptable. Congress members should also pay to travel back and forth. I believe that all political function travel should be billed to their reelection committees, all additional security needed should as well.
As far as Trump goes this of course is a sticky wicket, every POTUS family has had Secret Service coverage and honestly there is no way around it. You can't have the family out there vulnerable to attack or kidnapping. This is not any different from Chelsea and the Obama girls in a way but at the same time it is because Trumps children are adults and have business travel.
I am appalled by the expense but I also don't know how you can stop it. Do we bill Trump Inc because they are Billionaires? Great but what about the next POTUS that isn't?
As far as the money amounts anything quoted is a guess at best, the Obama travel costs are known because FOIA requests got the amounts from the Air force and Secret service, Trump has not been in office to be able to do that and the costs are not available with out one.
