People coming into America crammed in the back of trucks, often dying in the process are not simply walking across their neighbor's yard. They also have come from Cuba on crude rafts. So long as there is promise of some kind of employment, people will risk life and limb to get in.

But many others are simply walking in. So stop giving me your bull$#@!. Try to answer the question. Which is easier, walking across your neighbor's unfenced property line or tunneling under his fence? Try to be honest. I know you can be. I see it here from time to time.

Of course some will still do it, the wall needn't be absolutely impervious to be successful.

The Berlin wall was much easier to defend. The difference with Cuba is that the country of origin was trying to keep them in, so the danger of being caught trying to leave was at least as great, if not greater than making the voyage on a raft. The boatloads of refugees trying to get into Italy may be a closer analogy today.

I will enjoy that time when the people who manage to invade are measured in the tens per day instead of in the thousands per day. The wall will be a substantial obstacle to simply coming into our country. More agents looking for illegals and some damned harsh treatment for governments, including the unfriendly Mexican government, who encourage this behavior will put an end to the invasion.

Essentially it is. I have walked two sectors. I have also viewed the surveillance imagery of hundreds just walking across the border and right into the US. I even saw pictures of the rape trees. Some pay a price for being shown the way in. A guarded, defended wall puts a stop to the walk-ins.

The Dept. of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intends on issuing a solicitation in electronic format on or about March 6, 2017 for the design and build of several prototype wall structures in the vicinity of the United States border with Mexico. The procurement will be conducted in two phases, the first requiring vendors to submit a concept paper of their prototype(s) by March 10, 2017, which will result in the evaluation and down select of offerors by March 20, 2017. The second phase will require the down select of phase 1 offerors to submit proposals in response to the full RFP by March 24, 2017, which will include price. Multiple awards are contemplated by mid-April for this effort. An option for additional miles may be included in each contract award.

I expected this to take longer. :-)

I am confident there will be towers and mobile sensor platforms. Also horses and ATVs.
