Like I said... much ado about nothing.

They interviewed some female Marine who was thrown out of the service for disciplinary reasons who voluntarily made a sex tape and got bent out of shape when her ex boyfriend published it. I guess nothing like that happens in the private sector.

Well, except that I am a liberal - leftist if you will. On the other hand, there is personal responsibility. If you leave things around in unsecured places for people to find, you have no control over what happens to them. If for instance those pics were shared with someone or someones who then shared them with the defense contractor, there was no illegal act. If someone hacked the accounts they are guilty of hacking and some sort of invasion of privacy and they are a slime bag. That doesn't make them unique. The world is full of males and females who would do this sort of thing in a heartbeat.

I keep bringing this back to idiotic behavior in a society that should know better. I am 62 and wouldn't post anything on Facebook or Instagram that could come back to haunt me. I knew better even when I was 20 than to share information or pictures that could later embarrass me. Perhaps this is less about the case at hand than the lackadaisical attitude that many younger people have about posting personal information, compromising pictures or videos on the internet. ANYONE at all can abuse your trust and ANYONE at all can hack social media accounts.

Furthermore, you did not address the question that I asked. Why are people posting nude pics of themselves on the internet? Are they not sexually advertising? Are they not really putting themselves at risk of sexual predators? Do they even think about the consequences of doing so? Honestly, finding that the pics ended up on a disgusting website is probably not the worst thing that could have happened. Some sicko rapist, murderer with an IT background could have instead found them and raped and murdered those women. Why do people want to make themselves targets for the deviant scum in society?

I don't condone the behavior of the person who disseminated those photos, he is scum, but by the same token, people need to pull their heads out of their respective backsides and acknowledge that there are people in society and even among one's own social group that may have no boundaries or morals. They have always existed and they always will, so it is up to each individual to be responsible and mitigate the danger. The fact that these were women doesn't make them special in that respect. Society does not owe them special latitude to do as they please and then claim total innocence or ignorance of reality. I am a feminist, but to me women are not specially protected, they are equal and equality means watching your own six, not putting all the responsibility on men to take the higher road, when you are travelling in the swamp. If you enter the swamp there are snakes.

According to the article, only one disseminated the pictures. Many saw them and commented because they ended up on a disgusting website. Are you honestly surprised that there are misogynistic males in society? There are also women who despise men in society. You are obsessed with the comments of these neanderthals which should be a signal to the military to investigate those individuals, but you ignore the notion of personal responsibility. I don't know if that's just in general or only where women are concerned. Newsflash dear, many of us have been abused by men, to include violence and sexual assault/rape. Yes, me too. Not all men are that way. Some people are disgusting wastes of skin, but that is life. Victimhood is not productive. People need to be proactive and avoid making themselves the targets of the neanderthals or the vicious. Being obsessed with reactive justice does nothing to protect the naive and stupid from putting themselves in harms way.

The men making comment used the anonymity of the internet to show their fantasy keyboard A-hole selves. I doubt many would mistreat a female in the ways they pretended in real life. The web skews reality. The woman wanted at least one male to like her nudes. She should have known that more than one would likely be copied. A Marine oriented sausage fest is more than likely to behave like dogs sniffing a female. And it did. Let the PC pogrom commence.

Dear Marines United,

Either you guys are more $#@!ed up than a soup sandwich or my beloved Marine Corps has gone to $#@!.

After reading about the Marine United Facebook group that has been soliciting and sharing explicit photos of servicewomen, I was hoping to see young men willing to take responsibility for their actions, and apologetic to the women they’ve hurt. Instead, between the comments left on Facebook and on the numerous articles published on about Marines United, you left us with a sorry sack of excuses. The worst part is you’re even trying to hide behind the Marine Corps name as justification for such disgusting behavior. Well, you know who else makes excuses? Children. And you sound like a bunch of little children.

Maybe you just can’t distinguish right from wrong. Do you really think it is okay to post nude photos of women in a group of 30,000 strangers? Some of these photos were stolen, some were taken surreptitiously, and others were given to you with ill intent by ex-boyfriends. Help me understand what kind of man boy gets his rocks off belittling, bullying, and shaming a colleague and fellow service member. I understand y’all probably can’t figure out how to get laid, but, what? You also can’t navigate your browser to a porn site? The fact is, there’s nothing manly about that behavior. There’s no honor to it and there’s no courage to it. And since the Marine Corps’ leadership seems to be UA on this, we as a community need to be better at supporting our fellow service women and call out those who shame the Corps and what Marines stand for.

I remember during one of the worst days of fighting in Fallujah, an armored Bradley, outfitted as an ambulance, pulled up to evacuate some of our wounded. Two female soldiers stepped out, loaded Marines onto stretchers, and got them evacuated to a higher echelon of care. Soft-skinned vehicles and even AAVs couldn’t get to the front line because the fighting was so thick. None of us gave a $#@! that the Bradley soldiers were women; we gave a $#@! that our brothers were getting evacuated. Okay, fine: Deep down inside, it did hurt a little that they were soldiers and not Marines coming to our aid, but you get the point. Or maybe you don’t. But those women did earn the right to wear the 1st Marine Division’s blue diamond as their Army-issue shoulder patch.

A number of your defenders have said Marines United was established to help Marines and reduce the veteran suicide rate from 22 a day to zero. Do you know that suicide rates among female veterans have risen almost 40% since 2001? Or that female veterans under 30 die by suicide at six times the rate of civilian women? Or that 23% of female service members were sexually harassed in 2014 alone? Maybe you should rename your group Male Marines United, because you certainly aren’t doing anything to help those fellow Marines.

If you can’t see the shame in your actions and the dishonor you’ve brought to the Corps, then I don’t know how you became a Marine in the first place.

You call yourselves a bunch of alpha males. In the Corps I left, alpha males didn’t need to go around calling themselves alpha males. Marines took responsibility for their actions, and men stood up for women, fought for right and freedom, and kept their honor clean. - Source
