Photos of naked female Marines reportedly shared on social media

    `
"The U.S. Marine Corps is investigating a veteran's allegations that military personnel and other veterans distributed nude photos of female colleagues and other women as part of a social media network that promotes sexual violence. Hundreds of Marines may be caught up in the scandal, the Marine Corps Times reported Sunday.

The revelation was first uncovered by a decorated combat veteran's non-profit news site and reported Saturday by the Center for Investigative Reporting. Maj. Clark Carpenter, a Marine Corps spokesman, confirmed that an investigation is underway, Marine Corps Times reported, but he said military officials were uncertain exactly how many personnel were involved." - Source

Gee, I wonder whose idea it was to throw a bunch of females into the mix.

They should have listened to Kipling.

Or, you know, we could just train our men to treat women properly.

Everyone should treat everyone else with respect, but -- and I hate to say this -- chivalry is dead.

Some of the biggest offenders of "sharing" personal images are young women trying to shame other young women. Good behavior is classless and sexless. Everyone, not just females, are deserving of basic respect and decency.

That's a little bit like the phrase, "I'm not a racist, but..." What comes after the "but" usually counters what came before it.

No more "buts." No more blaming women for men acting like neanderthals and animals. All that does is perpetuate the problem. Time to break the cycle. Condemn the men that did wrong and teach men and boys how to properly treat women.

The men that share it are just as culpable. They should stop it dead there, call out the women that shared it, and delete the images. That's not what happens, and that's a problem.

    Agreed.

    Not even remotely similar.

While I'm sure you didn't intend it -- you just degraded females here.

You're perpetuating an age-old ideal that women are somehow delicate flowers, in need of special protections. It's this kind of stereotyping that leads men to think they must not only protect women, but, in doing so -- they somehow "own" them.

It's a slippery slope and it's at the base of every patriarchal society since the dawn of time. There's so much psychological convolution wrapped up in the statement that we need to "teach men and boys how to properly treat women."

Is the "proper" treatment of women any different from the proper treatment of men? Should only men be taught this level of respect, but not women?

Perhaps, instead of painting women as perpetual victims of male dominance, you could try to understand that you're not doing women any favors by taking that position.

Do you realize that if we teach ALL our children, boys and girls alike, to respect one another, we won't have these divisive types of issues?

Just to clarify the record here...
This was not an active duty Marine who pulled these pics. It was an ex-Marine contractor. You can train until you turn blue; this stuff is going to happen, particularly when invited by the actual naked person to do so.

This female Marine put these nekkid pics of herself on Instagram. How stupid do you have to be to not realize that they'd be disseminated, and then object to them being disseminated?

    She brought this upon herself.
