I saw a taste test of the regular cheese burgers. Burger King beat the rest. Something about tasting the charbroiling.

Now for me the winners are Five Guys and In-N-Out. I would eat White Castle just to remember my childhood in Chicago but I cant get them where I live. They are horrid but I would stare through the glass watching them make batches of 30 at a time mesmerized by the cooks speed. I think the burger was 15 cents and the cheese burger 20 cents IIRC which is good because you need four or six of those slimy little things to fill up.

I disagree, but even the terrible McDonalds is better than the inedible White Castle.

All the grease, added sugar, and chemicals is what some people crave.

    The list is trash food.

Get your own quality ground beef and make your own burger.

I can't remember when I last ate a fast food burger. A couple of weeks ago, I tried a breakfast sandwich from Burger King. It was absolutely tasteless. I like sub sandwiches. In the Milwaukee area, I go to either Suburpia or Cousins.

White Castles are something that you either love or hate - there's little in between. Back in Indiana, when I was in high school, I used to have to eat at least a dozen on every visit - we all did. I discovered Krystal's when I was stationed in Memphis, and found them pretty much indistinguishable from White Castles. Every once in a while, I just have to buy a package of the frozen ones and pretend they're the same, though of course they're not. My sister even sent me a White Castle candle a few years ago that's supposed to smell like a White Castle burger when it's burned, though I can't bring myself to light it.

A while back, I watched an episode of America Eats about the burger business, and I'd never realized what an important part White Castle played, not just in creating the fast food industry, but in getting Americans to eat beef again after Upton Sinclair's expose of the meatpacking industry, 'The Jungle', ruined a lot of folks' appetite in 1906. I guess they used to grind the meat right there behind the counter, to show people that it was being done hygienically, and of course everything was painted white and sparkling clean.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard
