Chance the Rapper Donates $1 Million to Chicago Public Schools
“Our kids should not be held hostage because of political positioning,” Chance said at the press conference at Wescott Elementary school.
Chance the Rapper has followed through with his promise to help out his hometown of Chicago by donating $1 million of his own money to Chicago Public Schools. “As a kid from West Chatham, from the South Side literally three blocks away from here, it’s pretty serendipitous to be here today,” Chance said while discussing his donation during a press conference on Monday.
Chance, real name Chancellor Bennett, also called upon private businesses and corporations to donate money to the school system, saying that for every $100,000 in donations he will donate an additional $10,000 to individual schools to further support arts education. According to The Los Angeles Times, the bulk of Chance’s donation will come from ticket sales from his upcoming tour.
