General rule: homicide is prohibited (good rule)
Exception: self defense where threatened with serious bodily harm or lethal force
Exception to the exception: duty to retreat

And that is what stand your ground is. People are conflating imperfect self defense claims with 'stand your ground' ..... all it means is that the law doesn't impose a duty to retreat.

Its a good rule because of adrenaline and its ability to give those under stress tunnel vision where they don't perceive avenues of retreat anyway.

This is not something a couple of $#@!kickers with a couple of six pieces thought up one day down in Tallhassee, its a statutory codification of a common law rule that had been evolving from the 19th century.

The duty to retreat is only applicable in situations where otherwise justifiable self defense was employed. If its not self defense, the duty to retreat paradigm is irrelevant because homicide itself remains prohibited
