To me, marriage is between a man and a woman. That's b/c of my religion. However, legally, marriage is also a contract. I foresee a circumstance where you have a religious ceremony and a legal ceremony.

As you note, marriage is a religious concept. Marriage and Civil Unions should be separated with one being in the province of religion and the other the government. Of course, that immediately brings a problem when some in the government think religion should dictate laws.
Religion should not be used to deny people their Constitutional rights and the government should not be used to control religion.
While the male-female element has largely prevailed in most cultures, very little else has been consistently held to be necessary. In any case, Society and the law are not bound by any religious Faith's doctrines and dictates. In past centuries, the Christian churches, when and where their membership constituted a majority, have tended to try to take over the civil law and place a sort of doctrinal overlay onto it; the U.S. and most other Western nations have, for the most part, gotten over allowing that. Marriage in America, even in Colonial times, was always a civil, rather than a religious institution; that the Christian church somehow "invented" marriage and therefore owns it and must be allowed to structure it as they see fit for all of society is a myth.

Two people, similarly situated, should not be denied the ability to contract equally. Equal protection.
