    Back out into the desert

What a great day. We set off this morning to an area near us where there is supposed to be native Indian glyphs. The path wasn't marked or mapped well, it's not a destination spot and we missed it on the way out. Drove further down the highway about an hour to a hot spring and a couple of fairly large lakes that I've been wanting to visit. On the way back we took a dirt side road where we thought might have been the glyph road. I think it was but we didn't find them. It's not mapped and it's off-road. Bottomed her little SUV out a few times in the hills lol until we couldn't drive further because the trail was really rough. We got out and hiked. It's just glorious out here in the foothills in the desert. We found rocks, quartz and other "ites". It was a geologists dream. Explored the dried out washes, saw tons of animal prints and a few big cat prints which made me nervous. I made a lot of noise wandering around, I didn't want to surprise anything and I wanted to make sure whatever was out there knew I was the boss lol.

Going back tomorrow to see if we can find those glyphs, have a better idea where they might be. Taking my truck this time lol. Wish I had my ATV's running. Taking a handgun too, I don't have my CC here yet but I'll holster it.

    Got tons of pics.

Prints we spotted, the were everywhere.

A weird rock by a tree, there were a couple of these out there. Couldn't figure out how they got there.

    More prints

We found a couple of these out there, makeshift bridges. Not sure what their purpose was, one could (and did) easily climb around them. I tested one with a foot and a small shift of weight. Wasn't giving it a go. She said "wait, let me get a video of this".

A cactus, we saw a bunch of these up here. Notable because it's really the first cactus we've seen in the high desert.

This is hard to see but I stepped on something mushy, it was an anthill. We saw a couple of these, 3 or 4 along the way. The ants weren't happy about it, I had about 50 of them running up my leg. They were a very pretty, bright red. We didn't linger here long.

I will trade you tomorrow, you can dig fossils here in the peace river in Arcadia FL.

I can poke around in the desert.

Archeology and paleontology and geology are all closely related.

    Have fun with your pistol.

@resister - I was thinking about you out there, there is a lot of wash which is basically dry creek beds that flow when it rains but is most of the time just dry. We're going back tomorrow and I'm going to spend a lot of time tracing that dry wash to see what I can dig up. Maybe a gold nugget lol, but more likely a coyote turd.

I find myself thinking about forum members when digging. We may fight like cats and brothers and dogs, but we are all kinda family.

Cool beans, if that yote turd is fossilzed, you have found a coporolite!

These were the samples we brought back. We found one, should have taken a pic of it, it was huge, like. the size of a bowling ball and a half. It was split in, not half, maybe 1/3, 2/3. It was almost all quartz or something like quartz. A whole spectrum of stuff, we saw just about every color in there. Purple, red, white, green, it was amazing. I wanted to take it home but we were a mile or so from the car and I didn't want to lug that thing back. Maybe we'll pick it up tomorrow. My kid is coming with us this time, he'll lug it back lol.
