Republicans revamp U.S. health bill, boost benefits to older Americans

Im guessing they needed these changes to have a chance of passing it

U.S. House Republicans are working on changes to their healthcare overhaul bill to provide more generous tax credits for older Americans and add a work requirement for the Medicaid program for the poor, House Speaker Paul Ryan said on Sunday.

Ryan said Republican leaders still planned to bring the healthcare bill to a vote on the House of Representatives floor on Thursday. Speaking on the "Fox News Sunday" television program, he added that leaders were working to address concerns that had been raised by rank-and-file Republicans to the legislation.
Republicans remain deeply divided over the healthcare overhaul, which is President Donald Trump's first major legislative initiative. It aims to fulfill his campaign pledge to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, popularly known as Obamacare, the healthcare program of his Democratic predecessor, Barack Obama.
Democrats say the Republican plan could throw millions off health insurance and hurt the elderly, poor and working families while giving tax cuts to the rich.
"We think we should be offering even more assistance than the bill currently does" for lower-income people age 50 to 64, Ryan, the top Republican in Congress, said of the tax credits for health insurance that are proposed in the legislation.
Ryan also said Republicans were working on changes that would allow federal block grants to states for Medicaid and permit states to impose a work requirement for able-bodied Medicaid recipients.
Trump told reporters in a brief conversation aboard Air Force One that he had meetings about healthcare reform over the weekend in Florida and that the effort to sell the proposal was going well.

The Republican Party is screwing up. They promised to repeal Obamacare not rename it. There are only 17 House Republicans with any honor. The nation is surely doomed.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

I pledge allegiance to the Constitution as written and understood by this nation's founders, and to the Republic it created, an indivisible union of sovereign States, with liberty and justice for all.

I never thought they could repeal it or end it suddenly. Remember something MrV obama care has been active for over 7 yrs. Most of the changes to health care have been made already. Do you realize the magnitude of reversing that from drs on up.
If they repealed that all at once there would be chaos from every angle from the patients to Drs, to Hosps to insurance, medicare and medicaid. Cant be done has to be done in increments

I almost laughed out loud over my breakfast this morning when I read that Paul Ryan was suddenly saying the bill had to be changed to protect seniors. How stupid does he think Americans are? This bill was his baby from the start and was consistent with his attempts to gut Medicare/Medicaid since he first got into office. Then he catches hell for it, and suddenly protecting seniors is his number one priority.

the thing i admire most about paul ryan is that he has not let the fact that he benefited personally from social security survivor's benefits prevent him from trying to screw the poor and elderly at every turn while kissing every corporate ass within reach.

To end it. End it. Don't change the name and tell me you have repealed it.

This is why we cannot have nice things. Cowardice and Marxism are the two most dangerous things in the world.

Dont forget that in the original Obamacare that every Republican and pundit was lambasting tbe Medicare cuts.

This plan not only preserves Obama's initial cuts or transfer but expands upon them.
