    Not for themselves or their families. But there is a certain type of person who does not actually give-a-fuk about anyone else.

    There is an Owner mentality. There's a reason why personnel departments worldwide are all now referred to as Human Resource Management. Conspiracy Theories of ancient family cliques who now rule the modern world aside, this mindset is very ancient. In reality, the names and families keep changing. Old Blood becomes incompetent or unlucky, and New Blood supplants them. But they all end up adopting the same viewpoints: the 99% is fodder for amassing even more wealth and power.

    Sometimes there are outliers, mavericks. Several of the current New Billionaires may be them. There is hope.

    But our Trumpistas seem to be uncritically accepting their preordained roles in the Brave New World to come.

    I think it is a given that the air quality has improved greatly since the 50's and 60's, I have not heard anyone saying that we should move back to that standard. What many people are saying and what no one on the Clean energy seems to care about is currently there is no way to economically replace fossil fuels. These numbers are for electricity generation alone,
    Coal = 33% Natural gas = 33%
    Nuclear = 20%
    Hydropower = 6%
    Other renewables = 7%
    • Biomass = 1.6%
    • Geothermal = 0.4%
    • Solar = 0.6%
    • Wind = 4.7%

    Petroleum = 1%
    So 67% of our electricity comes from Fossil Fuels, what is your replacement?

    From 1973 to 2012, the DOE and its predecessors spent $154.7 Billion (2012$) of our tax dollars on “Energy R&D”* and has yet to produce a significant energy technology that is commercially viable (i.e., without tax breaks and/or subsidies).
    So we shut down our fossil fuel power plants and replace them with what?????

    Months ago I predicted that this would be the liberal's response to Trump's calls for easing regulations which have strangled certain industries and stolen some people's private property rights.

    Right now the only viable replacement is expanding the production of nuclear power.

    Tell that to Germany. We'd be in a favorable position on renewables, too, if our congress wasn't bought and sold by oil and coal companies.

    Anti science Republicans agreed with you and did nothing about it.

    Meanwhile the Germans did something about it, and they'll sell that to us eventually giving them an economic advantage we could have had for at least a generation.

    There's no other viable alternative right now. There may be in the future, but that's the future.
