Majority of Americans can't name a single supreme court justice

Most people find politics boring. There's a reason we average a dismal 55% voter turnout (in presidential election years). That's fine. Nobody should be obligated to care about politics. Some people just want to live their lives and do their best to get by.

Time to stop shaming people for not devouring politics like political junkies like me.

People should know the basics, regardless of their private interests. For example, local candidates, basic US history, their rights, so forth. Something that disturbs me is how few people fully understand their rights in legal situations. I honestly don't know the answer to this, but are US high school students not required to take mandatory civics and history classes?

In fairness, the identities of local candidates are not always easy to find. Even harder to find is their political views. As I said, that all depends on where you live.

That is sad. I make it a point to know these things. I write letters. Make calls. Generally let them know that I'm out here watching them. I've called Sherrod Brown regularly. I think they track the calls. I live in a county that hasn't voted democrat in 200 years. I'm not sure he could even find it.
