Yet they know all of the contestants on Survivor... Sheep rarely realize they are sheep... I am not as optimistic in our citizenry's civil prowess as you are... As a matter of fact I would venture to guess that the vast majority of Americans believe they are "free" and don't partake in their civic duty simply because it is an inconvenience to them.

People on this forum obviously have a moniker of understanding of what is going on around them making my point a little more valid. After all if "most" of the 300 million people in this country had a clue they would probably be on here trying to make sense out of it... That's why I'm here.

Given our membership is probably around 20-30 active members I'm not hopeful.

Part of it is definitely that people, whether correctly or incorrectly, feel that their say is irrelevant.

I honestly think most Americans have been lulled into a false sense of security which directly speaks to their apathy. They are well fed, comparatively wealthy and well entertained with not only reality TV but also their own worlds which of course is revolved around by the rest of the universe. Why mess up a good thing?

There is a reason why Americans are viewed as fat, lazy and uninformed by the rest of the world.

Even Saint Ronald Reagan of Blessed Memory appointed a liberal justice and liberal presidents have appointed conservative justices.

This is fluff stuff. I would be more concerned if they couldn't name a single SCOTUS case.
I have a hunch the majority of voters couldn't name a single SCOTUS case.

How can you or anyone suggest democracy succeeds if the majority of participants do so out of ignorance?

It would be like watching a football game with teams made up of people who have never seen the game let alone play it.
