    MRSA infection help needed

I have a relative in the hospital with a MRSA infection. They are a carrier for the bug and this is their third hospitalization this year.

I remember a member here mentioning that they (IIRC a female tpF member) are a MRSA carrier as well and I could use that member's advice right about now.

"tpF member", PLEASE PM me or post here. I could use you help.

    Thank you

    Carrier?

It's an infection. It's treated with antibiotics, and topical creams. Severe cases may require IV.

"Carrier" is the doc's word. I don't know much more about it since I haven't googled everything yet. But the tpF member here used the same term in describing her battle with the bug.

I think you're referring to me.

In order to be "cleared" I had to go on a regimen of a nasal spray and then pass 3 consecutive tests. Since I worked in health care, I had to be pretty vigilant about it. I did have all sorts of problems for a while when I had symptoms, otherwise, I just carried it to and fro, infecting everyone in my path.

It can recur, I think is what the doc is referencing. What is the infection site?

Most people who work in health care are carriers who never show symptoms because they are otherwise healthy and quite frankly, just get lucky. That's the status that I had after several very serious infections. I still had MRSA, but no symptoms.

    Thanks for responding.

They are talking about a 30 day rehab facility on IV antibiotics assuming she gets over the emergency situation she's in now. The nasal spay antibiotics is interesting as I hear staff can be found in your nasal passages.

I think that I was put on the spray because testing showed that it was basically where the MRSA was hiding at that point.

I had MRSA for like, 3 to 4 years. It was a $#@!.

Are they going to use Vanco? I am allergic to it but it's the usual form of treatment. It can be miserable because it's the strongest antibiotic out there, but better to have it and take it than have an allergy.
