We both miss her dearly. Cannot bear to take her cage out of the kitchen. SW -- I agree and am working on it.

My Gemma is only 4-and-a-half, and I make a point to enjoy every day with her and let her know how much she means to me.

That's just so darned hard. My dogs are family members and I can relate to your wife's feelings. It hurts. So badly.

Yet, I can't imagine life without these amazing creatures around, underfoot. (((Hugs))) to you and your wife.

I got a good shot of my sweet Gemma earlier this week that I wanted to share.

I must say, she is very protective of her home and family. Sometime in the night she will migrate over to a comfy chair or sofa - but every evening when we all go to bed, she insists on sleeping for the first few hours on the floor with her back to the front door. No one trained her to do that.

Many years ago when my kids were very young, I had a German Shepherd named Sheba, my wife would let the kids play in the front of the house and she would sit on the steps watching them.

Sheba would automatically go right in the middle of them and sit bolt upright and just scan watching for anything she thought would be a threat and she would not move till the kids went back inside.

Same if they were in the back, sheba was always with them watching
