A majority of state governments have cut funding to K-12 schools this year as they struggle to balance their budgets without the $100 billion infusion from the federal stimulus that has now dried up.
Illinois, Kansas, Texas and Wisconsin have cut overall funding by more than 10 percent since the last fiscal year, according to a report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
Thirty states are now funding their schools with lower budgets than they had in 2008 (measured in inflation-adjusted dollars), even though school populations have grown. Arizona, California, Hawaii and South Carolina are leading the way, having cut per-student funds by more than 20 percent since 2008.
The number of local education jobs decreased by 115,000 between September 2010 and September 2011, according to the report. Since September 2008, schools have eliminated 278,000 jobs.....snip~
Another thing not mentioned is that most of these states are led by Democratic State governments. Thats the majority of them. Now Obama's package deal also came with the creating of an Infrastructure Bank. Brought forth by Guess who. Mr I got to see Democracy in another country at the tax payers expense. John Kerry! Yes the republican oppose such due to the tax increases.
But who is it screwing over Teachers in the Democratically led states? Who is the ones that are cutting those jobs? Who is the ones that are breaking their Contract negotiations? So once again the MSM plays it off as republicans just oppose everything. But when in actual reality it the Democrats that are screwing their base over not Republicans.
Illinois, NY, California, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts. All Democratically State led governements. With the 3 largest cities in the country with 3 of the largest budget deficits and outspending the rest of the entire Country.
