The head of the ATF’s office in Los Angeles has sent a memo to Southern California police chiefs and sheriffs saying the agency has found law enforcement officers buying and reselling guns in what could be a violation of federal firearms laws.

The memo from Eric Harden, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms’ Los Angeles Field Division special agent in charge, describes the finding as an “emerging problem” and expresses concern about “the growing trend of law enforcement officials engaging in the business of unlicensed firearms dealing.”

He did not say how many officers the agency has found purchasing and reselling weapons, but the memo — dated March 31 — says some officers had bought more than 100 firearms. Some of the guns have been recovered at crime scenes.

Ok not putting myself as a "Trumpkin" but, I think the devil is in the details. The story says "some officers had bought more than 100 firearms" is that individual officers that have bought 100+ guns each and resold them, that is a problem as I think that makes them a dealer. Or are we talking that combined officers have bought over 100 guns, that is less of a problem. As far as guns showing up at crime scenes again more details are we saying the cops are selling guns to bangers? or is it one or two guns sold and then maybe stolen after the weapon was sold?

The other part of that is what is the roster of weapons that individual officers can buy that the public can not. Just being a Police Officer should not change the type of firearms you can buy personally.

It is ironic that the ATF brings this to light after F&F but that does not change the fact that if LEOs are using professional discounts to sell guns for profit and are selling restricted firearms that is not a good thing.
