U.S. immigration agents arrest 976 gang members in sweep

    WASHINGTON

(Reuters) - Nearly 1,000 gang members and associates from 239 different gangs were arrested across the United States in an operation headed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, the agency said on Wednesday.

The sweep, dubbed "Project Wildfire" and led by ICE's Homeland Security Investigations unit, was aimed at criminal gangs that work across international borders, ICE said in a statement.

During the operation, 976 gang members and associates were arrested in 282 cities. Most of those arrested were U.S. citizens, but 199 foreign nationals were also arrested, from 18 countries in South and Central America, Asia, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean, the statement said.

Two hundred and thirty-one other people were arrested for federal or state criminal violations and immigration violations, it said. The operation ran from Feb. 23 to March 31.

The title would you believe these were immigration arrests, when in fact most were US citizens.

Make me happy, yes. I am happy when people do their jobs and it results in safer streets.

I would be happier if immigration would actually do their job. I guess since they don't really do the immigration enforcement stuff anymore they are freed up to help law enforcement?

976 gang bangers is just the tip of a very big iceberg.

And if want to give Obama credit for toppling Khadaffi, you must give him the blame for the anarchy that followed him, including the death of the American ambassador at Benghazi.

    The Donald goin' after MS-13...

AG Sessions: 10,000 MS-13 Gang Members in USA; ‘We're Going After Them’
April 19, 2017 – It's up to the State Department to designate MS-13 as a terrorist organization. But regardless of whether that happens, “We’re going after them,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions told Fox News’s Tucker Carlson Tuesday night.
Sessions said the nation’s top federal law enforcement officers held a meeting earlier on Tuesday to discuss ways of convicting and deporting those gang members who are in the U.S. illegally. “We can devastate this gang. We’re going after them. We are not going to allow them to take over a block, a corner of our communities and terrorize people with this violence," Sessions said. “They use machetes. They kill children. They put children in prostitution at age 12. This is one of the most violent gangs in the history of our country, no doubt about it.”

The attorney general said there are now some 10,000 members of the violent Salvadoran gang in 40 states. “These are not geniuses,” Sessions said. “They are involved in the kind of activities that can be identified and they can be prosecuted.” He said with persistence, "we can devastate this organization, and that's going to be our goal.”

Sessions said many of the MS-13 members would not be in the country if the previous administration had been stricter about border security: “We are going to build a wall. We are going to add more agents on the border. The numbers have already dropped dramatically,” he said, noting that the number of illegal aliens trying to enter the country last month was the lowest monthly total in 17 years. “And that's Donald Trump's leadership," Sessions said. "He is determined to do that and end this lawlessness. We’re backing him up. The Homeland Security Department is really working hard, and we are going to continue on that. And so the numbers are down. So when fewer enter, our Border Patrol have a much better chance of catching those who do -- identifying those who are violent and deporting them."

President Donald Trump tweeted on Tuesday that his administration is removing MS-13 gang members “fast.” Sessions said it's part of the administration's message to the world: “What we want to say to the world is, please come lawfully. Wait your turn, make your application and it will be evaluated. And if you're accepted, come. But don't come illegally. “That's what the American people have a right to expect their government to do. And in the process we can protect them from some of the violent criminals and terrorists that are coming in.”

Trump Says Illegal Aliens Who 'Murdered People, Raped People' Are 'Getting the Hell Out'
April 18, 2017 | President Donald Trump said Monday that many people are thanking him for getting rid of the “burden” of criminal aliens.
In an interview with “Fox & Friends” host Ainsley Earhardt, the president said his administration so far has “gotten tremendous criminals out of this country.” “I’m talking about illegal immigrants that were here that caused tremendous crime, that have murdered people, raped people. Horrible things have happened,” Trump said. “They’re getting the hell out or they’re going to prison, and so many towns and cities are thanking me, because we’ve gotten rid of a burden that you would not believe. “I mean it is a serious problem, and we never did anything about it, and now we’re doing something about it,” he said.

When asked if he agrees with DHS Secretary John Kelly’s stance that criminal aliens who have even one DUI can be deported, the president said, “I’m letting him run it. He’s great. He’s a great general. He was a tremendously successful general, and I’m letting him run it.”

As CNSNews.com previously reported, Kelly told NBC”s “Meet the Press” on Sunday someone “with multiple DUIs, even a single DUI…would get you into the system,” meaning that such a person could be flagged for deportation. “But you've got to remember that there's a system, a legal justice system in place. And the law deports people. Secretary Kelly doesn't. ICE doesn't. It's the United States, you know, criminal justice system, or justice system that deports people,” Kelly said.

Besides the administration’s crackdown on criminal illegal immigrants inside the country, Kelly said the number of illegal aliens crossing the U.S.-Mexico border is down almost 70 percent.
