    Thank you, Mr. President.

America is with you,” President Obama told victims of the storm across the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast on Tuesday afternoon.

“Obviously this is something that is heartbreaking for the entire nation,” Mr. Obama said, speaking at a Red Cross center in Washington. “We certainly feel profoundly for all the families whose lives have been upended and are going to be going through some very tough times over the next several days, and perhaps several weeks and months. The most important message I have for them is that America is with you. We are standing behind you, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get back on your feet.”

He praised local officials, including Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg of New York and Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, whose state he will tour on Wednesday, for the “extraordinary work that they have done.” He added, “Were it not for the outstanding work that they and their teams have already done, and will continue to do in the affected regions, we could have seen more deaths and more property damage.”

He said he had told officials in the affected states, “If they are getting no for an answer somewhere in the federal government, they can call me personally at the White House,” adding: “My message to the federal government is no bureaucracy, no red tape. Get resources where they are needed as fast as possible, as hard as possible, and for the duration.”. . .

Air bridge brings help from California to Sandy victims
November 1st, 2012 - Seventeen of the biggest Air Force cargo jets are forming an air bridge from Southern California to the New York City region to carry electric repair crews and their equipment to assist Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.
The 69 vehicles on the flights belong to Southern California Edison. The trucks and the power crews are being flown Thursday to New York’s Stewart Air National Guard Base on five C-5 Galaxys and 12 C-17 Globemaster jets, according Air Force news release. The first jet is scheduled to land at Stewart about 4 p.m.

The equipment will be used to help restore power to customers in New York state and New Jersey. Those areas have already been getting help from power companies closer to New York, but using the cargo jets means the trucks can get to the heart of the storm-ravaged region in a matter of hours instead of days.

"There's been a lot of mutual aid to bring in more utility crews from surrounding areas as far south and west as California, those crews that can drive in that can get in relatively fast, have driven in," FEMA Director Craig Fugate said Thursday. "But we still have some equipment teams on the west coast that the concern was still 3-5 days transit time to get them to the east coast. There was also concern with their fire season, that if they couldn't get back to their fire season once that gets going, then they wouldn't be able to send the resources. So the President directed that we bring to bear DOD resources, aircraft."

Military helps pump water, restore power
October 31st, 2012 - The U.S. military is continuing to provide support in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, focusing particularly on pumping water out of flooded areas and restoring power.
In New York, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working to deploy 100 high-volume water pumps, supplementing 100 units provided by the Defense Department. More than 200 power generators have been set up in New York and New Jersey. They will be deployed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency as needed. According to the Pentagon, approximately 10,000 National Guard forces have been activated to support these states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia and West Virginia.

Guard forces are assisting with search and rescue missions, debris removal, transportation and providing communication. And in West Virginia, which has been hit with a heavy snowfall, the National Guard is patrolling Interstate 68 for stranded motorists and assisting the power company with generators. The Defense Department's Transportation Command has airlifted approximately 120 medical personnel to New York City to assist with care in nursing homes and at-risk elderly patients.

The Defense Logistics Agency is providing fuel and fuel transportation. The U.S. Navy moved three ships toward New York and New Jersey in case the storm-struck states ask for help, officials said on Wednesday. Navy spokesman Lt. Commander Chris Servello said there has been no official request for assistance from the amphibious landing ships that can launch helicopters, make fresh water and haul critical supplies and other aid.

What a bunch of jerks the MSM is! Bush did everything right with Katrina, and they ignored that and blamed problems on him. They didn't point out the ineptness of the NO mayor and the governor. Such hypocrisy!

Freddie Mac lends a helping hand to Sandy stricken homeowners...

Freddie Mac Has Good News for Home-Owning Sandy Victims
11/02/12 --- Hurricane Sandy's deadly dance through some of the U.S's most highly populated areas was terrible for many, but what does it mean for homeowners in its path?
No doubt, they are already dealing with a litany of major problems, including power outages, lack of food and gasoline and the need for quality health care for young, old and otherwise afflicted friends and family members. But when the smoke clears, the lights go back on and the kids and grandparents are safe, homeowners may have another Mother Nature-induced migraine: the survival of their homes. There is good news. If your home mortgage is backed by Freddie Mac and your home was damaged or your income stream reduced or curbed because of Sandy, you do have some relief options, the nation's largest mortgage provider said this week.

Freddie Mac, which says it has already financed 924,000 U.S. home purchases in the first half of 2012 and kept 81,000 U.S homes out of foreclosure, says it's taking active steps to help homeowners down and out from the hurricane. In a statement released Tuesday, Freddie Mac says its "full menu of relief policies for borrowers affected by disaster is being extended to homeowners whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy." The mortgage giant does have a few rules for homeowners.

Their homes need to be in areas that the White House has already declared to be major disaster areas (which includes all of Connecticut, New Jersey and New York), or that are eligible for individual emergency disaster relief, which includes a wider number of Eastern and Northeastern U.S. states. If you're not sure where your state stands in terms of federal government disaster relief, visit the Federal Emergency Management website. Relief can come in many forms, says Freddie Mac, including temporary relief from having to make mortgage payments.

My sister is volunteering right now in New Jersey.

She is doing more than this failure of a president ever has for those people.
