I've seen several here. The biggest was supposed to be over a mile wide. The most destructive was considerably small, but I watched it tear up McConnell AFB.

Closest I got was maybe half a mile. We kids were out in the street playing baseball of sorts. Got real windy, so as we could hardly play, then sirens. My uncle, a volunteer fireman, came flying out of the house, jumped in his car and turned on the siren and raced off. Palm Sunday, 1965.

The hurricane I experienced a few years back was unimpressive to me. It was about as bad as a normal Missouri storm. They may produce tornadoes, but usually tiny ones.

I actually had a tornado start over my head once. That was an interesting experience.

Not all hurricanes are created equal, hurricane charley, in 2004, tore arcadia a new a-hole. I lived in Tampa, a 100 miles north at the time, it was forecast to hit us directly.

It took a 90 degree turn into Arcadia and really did a # we are still recovering today, 12 years later. Ask new Orleans.

Having grown up in tornado alley, tornadoes aren't scary to me, even after the tornado that tore through Joplin, Missouri a few years back. In fact, I'm a bit of a storm chaser and they excite me.

It was insane watching a video of storm chasers following the tornado down streets I had taken every day.

I'm not saying they're all the same or that they can't do some damage. There were other factors involved with New Orleans, though. I can't speak on the Arcadia one, though.
