I will reiterate that I do not expect war between the US and Russia. (My take, for what it is worth, is that Putin is simply testing this new president, to see what he can get away with.)

Still, I think Rex Tillerson (the US Secretary of State) was correct when he recently described relations between the two countries as being at a "low point" in recent times.

    Comments?
Agree for the most part. That said I do not put the possibility of a war as low as you do, Putin cannot be trusted, no KGB agent can be. They have been playing the close encounter game for a while now and it seems to be becoming more frequent, seems to be a common theme these days the Chinese are doing the same with the Japanese. The world is getting more and more dangerous as the Powers flex their muscles, all it takes is one incident and the World is at war and it would be something no one will want to repeat if anyone is around to do so. What gave me concern was with the so-called hacking attempts supposedly done by the Russians, we know the Chinese do it all the time, one of the efforts hardly mentioned was them attempting to hack into a power grid. Now that has only One purpose, to shut down the grid in a part or the entire Nation, mess that up and this Nation will eat itself alive if it were to last too long. So, you may believe that it is all for show and a "test", I hope you are right, but I will remain the skeptic and wait and see where it is going, it may all blow over, or it could all change in the blink of an eye.

It would have been refreshing to have this calm, reasonable demeanor from the hard right the past eight years.

OK. Well, this is pretty typical. Not sure why it has people spun up.

Certainly, if they do nothing to repair those relations and take actions that make them worse, they will be just as responsible. That's just common sense.

If they do, the left will cry "he is in bed with the Russians" They mean to have their war.

Why is it America's responsibility to "repair" relations with the Soviet Union--uh, with Putin's Russia? (I guess that is a distinction without a real difference.)

And exactly what "actions" have Donald Trump and Rex Tillerson taken to make these relations "worse"?

Because we elected to sour them in the first place.

So far? Needless intervention in Syria and remaining silent as NATO keeps building up forces along Russia's neighboring border states.

So, it is the US--not the ruthless and revanchist Putin--who "elected to sour" relations?

    Strange.

We had rather good relations when Gorbachev was the head of Russia.

    Likewise, when Yeltsin was...

The adjective, "[n]eedless," amounts to an editorial viewpoint--in other words, an opinion--not cold, hard facts.

And those "border states" to which you refer, presumably, are NATO countries.
