Chronic traumatic encephalopathy. After repeated concussions and hits to the head, the brain can change but this disorder is only possible to diagnose during an autopsy. It can cause major changes to personality, increased aggressiveness, impulsive behavior, poor judgment, suicidal ideation, so forth, plus major neurological defects as it progresses like dementia. Football players, hockey players and wrestlers are usually the most at risk groups since they take major blows to the head. You may remember Chris Benoit, the wrestler, who murdered his family and then committed suicide. He was found to have CTE and it has been floated as a possible cause for his behavior.

There are so many symptoms that are usually attributed to other causes like psychiatric disorders until it is found on an autopsy, but you have to know to look for it on that autopsy. Some athletes have tried to sue their former professional organizations claiming they likely have CTE, but they can't prove it. It also significantly decreases your lifespan in severe cases.

It has already changed the way the game is played. There are new rules against targeting, meaning hits to the head, and they are strictly enforced. It apparently has resulted in higher scores.

As I recall, when Junior Seau committed suicide, he shot himself in the chest so they could study his brain. This was by his own request in his suicide note.

Aaron Hernandez’s Brain to Be Released for CTE Study

    http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/aar...lawyer-n749011

The brain of former NFL star and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez will be turned over to a center for study about possible brain trauma, authorities said Thursday, after an attorney for his family accused them of "illegally" withholding it.

The announcement that Hernandez' brain will be released to researchers came after the chief state medical examiner ruled Hernandez' death a suicide.

"Now that the cause and manner of death have been determined, the brain will be released to Boston University's Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center as Mr. Hernandez's family wishes," the statement from the district attorney's office and police said.

    But hopefully longer lifespans.

I still want an autopsy to see if CTE played a role. It makes a lot more sense.
Is it so hard to think that suicide was his most rational move?

I was reading an article today discussing how Massachussets has a thing called 'abatement ab initio' meaning that since AH's appeals were pending and he died, the status of the case reverts back to the beginning, ie his conviction is potentially voidable. Now that could be fake news, I am not Massachussets barred, but let's face it, his appeal was a low probability affair, he had a 4 year old daughter that he likely had some feelings for.....

There are many ways where I see, potentially, AH's suicide permit more money to flow to his daughter.

This is not to say that CTE may not be present or have had a role of course.

I'm just saying in AH's shoes I'd have been on the brink of suicide pending the appeals.

EXCLUSIVE: Aaron Hernandez left behind a handwritten suicide note for his gay jailhouse LOVER - who is now on suicide watch - and two more for his fiancée and four-year-old daughter

Investigators found three handwritten notes in Aaron Hernandez's cell next to a Bible that was open to John 3:16
One of the notes was to fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, who was seen leaving her mother's Connecticut home Thursday
The second note was to his four-year-old daughter Avielle
And sources close to the investigation tell DailyMail.com that the third letter was written to the former football star's gay prison lover
That unidentified man is currently under 'eyeball to eyeball' suicide watch
Shayanna and Aaron grew up in the same neighborhood and had known each other since elementary school
They became engaged in October 2012, while she was pregnant, and she took his last name following his murder conviction three years later
DailyMail.com has learned from a well-placed source that Hernandez was planning his suicide for weeks and gave away personal belongings to inmates
He covered the floor of his cell in soap so that he if he lost his nerve he wouldn't be able to save himself
