That is exactly the model that was displaced by the green revolution. America makes all the food it needs with <2% of the population. The cornerstone of prosperity is specialization, the foundation to future prosperity is ever deepening specialization.

Start the kids young thinking about applying themselves and getting marketable talent or skills. If you wait until they graduate high school without knowing how to read proficiently it is too late for them.

Bingo!!! I told both of mine that I did not care what they did as long as they can support themselves. I told him that could not rely on some guy to provide their living -- to be independent and strong women. They are -- except for that cell plan thing.
