I can only go by what I have read both academically and in my experience with sexual abuse claims. A distinct percentage of those abused have gone on to abuse others. Obviously, there is ground zero somewhere in these legacy cases. I think that abuse of drugs and alcohol can fundamentally change people and their brains. Sadism is another concurrent factor in some cases and whatever factors contribute to the development of a sadist. IIRC sadistic sexual torture was used during the inquisition. I know that sodomy has been used by some whacked out religious types as a "punishment", particularly where children are concerned. History is also replete with the use of young boys as sexual substitutes in certain cultures. So ground zero can have many causes and psychological trauma can cause people to repeat their own abuse by victimizing others as they get caught in a psychological logic loop that keeps playing in their brain as they try to deal with their own early abuse.

I am a claims professional with strong interests in both psychology and the law. For what it's worth, it appears that most people who seek high office tend to score higher on psychopathic scale as do the captains of industry.
