I don't know that it's a coup attempt in traditional sense of the term. Based on the last Presidential iteration, obstreperousness and criticism is now the rule in politics. That's a reflection of societal distrust and a division between urban and rural America and the opportunism of politicians.
That is combined now with a President that really enables the press to be as controversial as possible. The whole Russian conspiracy thing is based on a historical paranoia about Russia and Trump's open friendliness with Putin, combined with his openly narcissistic personality. It's a perfect storm of fear, distrust and honest shock at the way that Trump behaves. The media panders to the more than half of the population who believe that Trump is a madman who is perceived as someone who may ultimately turn America into either a death camp or a puppet of the Russias. The fact that Trump has done business with the Russians for years feeds the fury. People have come to fundamentally distrust politics and politicians being the opportunistic creatures that they are, are playing it for all it is worth, because if Trump is impeached they tarnish the other side, making it easier for them to succeed in the next election.
Were this a traditional coup attempt, the Republicans would be dispatched from office, but in reality, it only means that Pence would assume the position of President, which honestly is not necessarily better and could, in fact, be worse but would come across in a fashion that many people might not like, but would accept temporarily because he behaves like a normal person and doesn't rant at 3AM on twitter like a lunatic.
The idea of deep state is not really about partisan politics at all, but about nonpolitical global financial interests manipulating and influencing government to act to their benefit. Said interests don't really care which party is in power. They control the financing of elections and call in their favors generally to the detriment of taxpayers.

Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.
I pledge allegiance to the Constitution as written and understood by this nation's founders, and to the Republic it created, an indivisible union of sovereign States, with liberty and justice for all.

The Classicist Dr. Victor Davis Hason gave a good case for the coup theory. And no leftist can attack that man. That would destroy credibility with intellectuals.
This is all nonsense and ought to be treated as such. Except it is dangerous.
