“Conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery, or a complete subjection to the white man, and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent, and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future”

I did not even know what white privilege was until I started posting on political internet forums.
Something I did not think about until much later in life was that I never feared that someone would call me names or discriminate against me. I didn't realize that majority of television featured white actors with "white roles". I did not think about institutional racism in the justice system and law enforcement.
Canada had "polite racism" so it was never really discussed. I had very little education on the issue and very little exposure through media or other mediums.
My ignorance for 19 years is probably an example of white privilege. I imagine my viewpoint would have been much different if I were another race/ethnicity.
What people need to realize is that everyone is different and have different backgrounds and upbringings. To assume that every white person has had it easy is a form of bigotry, and to have a built in excuse for ones shortcomings is a form of privilege in of itself.
I got passed up for financial aid when applying to high school while my friend, who was black, who had a lower average than me, got aid, despite the fact that his family made more than mine. This example isn't to whine or cry about anything, rather, to illustrate that the concept of blanket privilege based on race is false.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.
