Pens up 2-0, won both home games. The first game the talking heads said the Pens got lucky, I didn't see it that way and I'm not being a homer, I think the first game was pretty evenly matched even though we won 5-3 with one late empty net goal. The Preds scored late in the third period to tie it up at 3-3 but we got a really late goal and an empty net. Pens were up 3-0 at the end of the first (they didn't get a shot on goal during the entire second period, for 37 minutes) and it looked like a blowout but.. as said.

During the first game the Predators had the first goal of the game called back, that was a big momentum killer and probably the reason why the talking heads went there.

Second game, blowout. 4-1 and it was closer than that but still a blowout. Officiating was awful, it was bad in the first game, pathetic in the second game. Not one sided, the Pens benefited from a bad call or two but overall, the penalties on Malkin and Crosby were just awful. Awful, and it got nasty toward the end.

So I brought this topic up with the whipmistress, if the Pens win the cup for the second year in a row, who gets the rookie of the year award? Matt Murray who is technically a rookie this year and if they win he'll have two Stanley Cup rings, or Jake Geuntzel who just tied the rookie playoff scoring total with 12 and will likely break it in the next two games.

I say Murray, he was "elected" the best player on the ice so far from the talking heads.

    Fun series.

    Are they still playing basketball?
Haven't been watching. I usually give up watching after my team exits. Can't say I'm THAT surprised to see the Pens doing well against the Preds. Because as well as the Preds played against the Hawks, there was something totally off about Chicago's chemistry and drive. They were not themselves in that series. So while the Pred's sweep over the Hawks was impressive, I tried not to put too much stake in it since the Hawks just imploded for some reason. And I believe they are still playing basketball. Haven't really followed it though. The only sports I'm really interested in at the moment are baseball (The Cubs) and football (The Bears) and even then I'm not too fixated on it. I usually wait until the end of the season/playoffs to start paying consistent attention. Luckily, Chicago sports has been involved in a lots of playoffs for a long time, so I always got something to look forward to and to watch.

Pens lost two road games, series is tied. Those two road losses were brutal, almost lost hope but game 5 tonight in Pittsburgh, blowout. 6-0, 12 minutes left in the third.

    Is the NBA still playing?

Warriors are up 3-0, the NBA season is effectively over.

Pens win 6-0, Matt Murray breaking NHL records.

Next game in Nashville Sunday, we're camping this weekend and might be home to watch but I'm taping it just in case.

Whatever is going on in the NBA finals, this final is... hell, way more exciting.

Matt Murray is technically a rookie and could be the first rookie to have two Stanley Cup championships under is belt.

The story here is, Jake Gentzuel is a rookie also and is nearing the rookie playoff scoring title.

It's a good time right now to be a hockey fan.
