I don't really understand the whole no pork thing. Hundreds of years ago before people had the ability to deep freeze or radiate meat or knew that meats like pork needed to be cooked to a certain temp people got sick. I'm sure they attributed it to "unclean" animal and the local witch doctors put religious connotations on it but now we know better, don't we? The same thing goes for leaving dead people lying around. People got sick. Some smart cookie put 2 and 2 together and realized that if you buried them or burned them people wouldn't get sick. They were probably so impressed with him that they promoted him to high priest who knoweth the unknown. Then they made the whole thing into a religious ceremony to assure the dead person would go on to the green pastures. It still happens today and some people use it to make the deceased relatives feel guilty if they don't pay for the supremo titanium model casket and composite materials vaults in an attempt to put off the inevitable corruption.
Give the guy his money back and tell him not to go to Little Ceasar's anymore.
I can't speak for Muslims, really, but I think for many Jews it has become more of a cultural habit and tradition. Most reform Jews don't follow all of the Mitzvot, but still elect to follow the tradition with pork and other foods that are not kosher. I read an article a few years ago about it, that it was a way for non-practicing or more liberal Jewish denominations to be connected to the more conservative ones that do follow it for religious reasons.
