Memorial Day 2017

People in the USA have lost their understanding of the meaning behind Memorial Day. Not only can they confuse it with Veterans Day they firstly see it as a day off of work. Then they associate this solemn day with barbecues and bargains to be had at this and that retail store.

Me and the man or women to my left enjoy our freedom and liberty because a man with a musket was willing to give his life in Massachusetts, on the beaches of Normandy and the caves of Okinawa in the Pacific.

God bless our fallen soldiers.

I am a bit worried that this OP thread has has had so little posing. Is there so little opinion on this National Holiday that very little can be offered or said in saluting our fallen citizens whom gave their ultimate gift to us breathing living BBQing citizens?

Most wars on based on lies and profiteering. The best way to honor the fallen is to stop creating so many of them.

I like something Patton said: It is wrong to mourn these men who gave their lives in defense of our nation; rather would should thank God that these men were born.

(From memory, but that is the idea).



I also reflect on the ever widening gap between the military and the civilian population.

To me, this is the most important Holiday; more important then Christmas. I've never missed one Memorial Day ceremony as an adult except one, where I had to work and couldn't get off from work to attend. God bless those who served and gave their lives so we could enjoy the liberties and freedoms we do.

You are a warrior. We are supposed to honor you and your brothers. Its the point IMO for this National Holiday. Are we allowed to honor you and the fallen? I sure hope so because you guys put your ass on the line while we ate TV dinners.

Today we honor those who died in battle or from the results.

Veterans Day is for the living service members.

When people thank me on this day, I tell them that they are premature.

Yes. There are hundreds of thousands of US citizen soldiers that go in harms way .Today is for those that have been killed in doing so. God bless those heroes.
