What you are not considering is that the Religious Right uses morality for the purpose of power through control, not for facilitating morality.

Which is why much of the prominent Religious Right are of questionable morality.

Actually, I agree with you somewhat. Government should not be in the business of legislating morality. It is as wrong as being in the business of income redistribution. Too bad you can't see that both are just different sides of the same coin.

Except, you see, this is one area in which Progressives have fucked up - they let conservatives frame the narrative in this manner. As the report put out by the CRS last week, that McConnell, and the Republicans have tried so hard to bury, income redistribution is already happening - toward the top! Raising taxes for upper income families isn't about income redistribution; it's about increasing revenue. And the sooner we get away from the "redistribution" lie, the quicker this issue will be seen for what it is.
