Left and right wing authoritarianism are both real. I doubt anyone would call the Patriot Act, movements to ban abortion, marijuana usage, contraception or gay marriage left wing, just like no one would call corporatism, increased taxes, social services or excessive government regulation right wing.
Classical Liberalism and modern libertarianism are the only political ideologies that find themselves consistently at odds with political Authoritarianism.
