    T-Ball

Bases loaded, as they often are in T-ball, our tykes are busy digging in the dirt, talking to their classmates on the other team standing on the bases, not quite awaiting the next hit coming off the stationary tee at home plate. Our 2nd baseman was talking to his friend and paying no attention at all when the ball was hit gently in a soft arc towards second. The runner took off and our 2b stayed on the base. Still, paying no heed to the play, the ball, as if guided by an angel, somehow found his glove and stuck in it. That very action alone was an instant double play, but as it turned out the other team's runner also made his way to 2b running into the 2b's left hand and mitt.

Indeed, the unassisted triple play is the rarest play in baseball. I would suggest this adds a certain 'hole in one' aspect to even that given that the kid wasn't even paying attention to the play.

When my youngest played, I can remember seeing the ball hit - somehow - into the outfield, and every kid on the field running after it. I think the funniest thing I saw during one of those games was a runner going from third toward home and one of fielders, a girl, throwing the ball and hitting him with it. Followed by several dozen parents trying not to let their kids see them laughing.

Awesome!! I remember T-Ball. My oldest (the pharmacist) thought David Justice was 'it' in 97 at 6. She had her bat and her spikes and her hat and used to shake her little behind and tap her spikes with the bat. At 6!! Memories.
