I pay around $30/mo, but that's bundled with digital phone line and basic cable. Looked and see 100Mbps for $45 from Spectrum (old TimeWarner).

Out here in the boondocks, they got you by the short hairs, not many options. We a tech from dish install our TV dish, I asked if they offered internet, he said (rare salesman honesty!) "yeah, but it sucks". (satellite internet)

Damn dish TV goes out anytime there is decent rain! At least you can watch DVR!

First power strips are worthless a couple of brown outs and they dont protect anything. You need a battery backup, they have phone line protection the downside is they cost a bit.

My wife and i live in fla we both have 1500 apc backups and weve never lost a thing plus I can run in a power outage for 21 minutes. I just take my time an shut it down naturally. Every couple of years you need to change the batteries.

Thats the only way to really protect your puter gear

I had that happen to me in the past. Years ago I had to replace by circuit breaker. I upgraded the box and added a surge protector there.

I still use regular surge protectors with my electronics. But no problems since.

The lightning affected nothing else, so i'm thinking it came right up the phone line. Glad my pooter is wireless. Last time it happened it fried a desktop.

Anyone else had this happen? How about @ Common? If I see lightning I am now unplugging my modem. You would think Century link would surge protect their lines. It coulda zapped me, what a law suite that would of been!
About 4 years ago, we took a lighting hit on the phone poll directly across the street from my house; luckily for me I have all sensitive equipment plugged into a power conditioner to prevent what happened to you from happening to me. It comes with a price tag attached; the conditioner ran me $500.00 about 15 years ago, but just from that one power hit, saved me around 4 or 5 grand in equipment that would have normally would have had to have been replaced.

Unfortunately, that means about 3 hours an afternoon, until late fall!

Yes, having lived in Florida at one point in my life every afternoon around 2pm rain/lighting pays a visit and sometimes stays longer than anticipated. Floida gets what i think is an abnormal amount of lightning strikes compared to other sections of the country.
