Lightning killed my modem!

Had a good storm last week. Sitting on my laptop about a foot and a half from my modem. Hear a noise kinda like breaking glass and see a blue flash from the modem, then smoke. RIP modem, you have been good to me, so sad.

The lightning affected nothing else, so i'm thinking it came right up the phone line. Glad my pooter is wireless. Last time it happened it fried a desktop.

Anyone else had this happen? How about @ Common? If I see lightning I am now unplugging my modem. You would think Century link would surge protect their lines. It coulda zapped me, what a law suite that would of been!

Old power surge protected power strips used to have a plug in for phone line to prevent that but I haven't seen similar for cable modems, assuming yours was cable and not phone line.

Nope, phone line, gotta check on that. So much lightning this time of year, i'd be unplugginf my modem damn near everyday.

What is even worse is talking to tech support in India!

Old school? Tops you might be getting 56 Kbps (56,000 bits per sec). I get 100 Mbps (100,000,000) but 300 Mbps is available.

My cellphone can connect to the Internet and then act as a hotspot connection for other devices. I'd bet it's expensive.
