    Canada 150

We'll be 150 years old in a couple weeks and the celebrations started at the beginning of the year, if not sooner. I figure we can start documenting some of the events until July 1. This weekend, the Canadian Forces takes over "guarding" the Queen in London, England until the day before we turn 150.

    From June 8:

    June 14 (making history):

    June 18:
On Sunday, June 18, a company of 80 personnel from the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and 35 members of the Royal Canadian Artillery Band will assume ceremonial duties as the Queen’s Guard in London, England, the Canadian Forces says. That will continue until July 3.

Really wish I had planned to be Ottawa for this but it would have been crazy.

The 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, which, not knowing much about Canada, I had to look up:

Canadian Confederation (French: Confédération canadienne) was the process by which the British colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united into one Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867.[1][2] Upon confederation, the old province of Canada was divided into Ontario and Quebec; along with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, the new federation was thus composed of four provinces.[3] Over the years since Confederation, Canada has seen numerous territorial changes and expansions, resulting in the current union of ten provinces and three territories.

Yeah... and Newfoundland and Labrador didn't officially join until 1949 and Nunavut didn't exist until 1999.

See, I didn't know you all had territories too. And Nunavut is huge, though probably not very populated.

Nunavut broke off from the rest of the Northwest territories - it used to all be NWT. Each province only has one electoral district, I think, which would mean there are not many people up there. Iqualuit would be a neat place to visit at some point. That's the capital of Nunavut and has about 7,000 people.

Looks to me to be too damned cold. I moved to TX to get away from cold.

Southwestern Alberta would be more to my tastes.

One of the things that has been highly promoted are "Participaction" activities considered to be Canadian. Like snowshoeing or whatever. Yesterday, it was swinging... but a news host in Calgary didn't understand the action described... it's kind of hilarious.

    Congrats.
